Samsung Electronics (Samsung), one of the major companies that have dominated the market for consumer electronics, especially cell phones and televisions, has already started working on the next generation of consumer electronics. On Thursday, Samsung applied for a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for “Samsung Connected Life with Bixby.”
Bixby is Samsung’s take on a digital personal assistant that is built into your mobile device, similar to the likes of Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and the Google Assistant. The artificial intelligence (AI)-focused personal assistant first debuted on the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8 earlier this year. The description given within the trademark application mentioned Bixby as “software for television[s] in order to find the desired service and/or contents of [a] television by recognition of [the] user’s voice.” Based on this brief description, it appears that Samsung intends to bring the Bixby personal assistant to their televisions, and will probably begin to integrate Bixby into their other apps, services, and devices in the near future.
It is expected, as Samsung is a South Korean-based company, that Bixby on Samsung TVs will most likely initially support both the English and Korean languages. Samsung has also recently launched beta testing for Bixby voice support in Chinese, so is wouldn’t be surprising to see a full Bixby Chinese system. There have also been mentions of a Bixby-powered smart speaker.
Samsung Electronics, which was founded in 1969, is a subsidiary of the South Korean based, multinational conglomerate corporation named ‘Samsung’, which was founded on March 1, 1938 in Taegu, Korea. Samsung, which was created to focus primarily on innovating the everyday devices of the 21st century, including TVs, smartphones, wearable devices, tablets, digital appliances, network systems and memory, system large-scale integration (LSI), and light-emitting diode (LED) devices, has grown into one of the most recognized global brands and a pioneer in technologies across multiple categories, including consumer electronics, as well as information technology (IT) & mobile communications.
